How Deep Are Your Roots?

I love that it is almost Spring. I am thinking optimistic :). I love that Spring brings new growth and life to the world. I love planting a garden and watching the seeds grow into small plants and then big plants that then produce food for us to eat. I think about how delicate those little plants are at first. Their roots are so small that anything could harm them: a good freeze or the scorching summer heat. Once those roots are established in the ground they become bigger and bigger taking root and producing wonderful things. Once those roots are big the scorching sun or the frost does not harm them as much.
We are like this as well. I think of the scripture Matthew 13:6, it says, "And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away."
As I pondered this scripture I began to think of our root system and how we get roots. We go to church, say prayers, learn from our families, read our scriptures, and listen to the prophet. As we do these things we gain a testimony, as our testimony grows so do our roots. We establish them in the ground and give us a good foundation to live on. As this happens we are able to withstand the scorching sun and survive. We must be willing to put in the work and the effort to establish our roots system. If we don't we are in danger of being scorched. We like the plant can then produce wonderful things: we can convert others to the gospel because of our good works and testimony, we can raise righteous children, and be an example to the world. We must establish our root system in these last days in order to bring the Lord's work forward. Let us all ask ourselves how deep are your roots?
