The Gift of Giving a Miracle
My roommate in college always wanted to be a mom. When we would go to her house and visit her family she would light up when she saw her siblings. She eventually finished school and then went on a mission. When she returned home she got married and wanted to start her family. After a lot of trying she found out she was unable to have a baby. Heart broken she cried to the Lord and he revealed to her the beautiful plan of adoption. Adoption is one of the many opportunities that are out there that allows husbands and wives to have a family when they physically cannot get pregnant. Currently there are about 2 million people throughout the country waiting to adopt a child. LDS Family Services helps families of all religion, race, and culture. My roommate wanted the chance to be a mom so bad, she was given that chance because of a selfless birth mom who knew that she was not at a time in her life to raise a baby on her own. The First Presidency has said, “We… express our support to unwed parents who place their children for adoption in stable homes with a mother and father. We also express our support of the married mothers and fathers who adopt these children. Children are entitled to the blessings of being reared in a stable family environment where father and mother honor their marital vows… Adoption is an unselfish, loving decision that blesses the child, birth parents, and adoptive parents in this life and throughout the eternities. We commend all those who strengthen children and families by promoting adoption.”
Adoption is a beautiful thing not only for the birth mom, but also for the child. It is an answered prayer to those seeking to have a family when they can’t on their own. I know many miracles and joys that adoption has brought into people’s lives.
